Can you tell me a little bit more about the company?
We are Automatic Rental Cars, an innovative, family-owned, fast-growing car hire company in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal established in 2022. Automatic Rental Cars is on a mission to help travellers like you have an easy and pleasant car rental experience. We want to help elevate the negative connotation of traditional car rental services. Our team is dedicated to provide you a 100% personalised experience tailored to your own individuals needs.
Are your cars in good condition?
Yes. Our fleet is technically brand new and all of our vehicles have less than two years of use. As we want our drivers to have peace of mind during their stay on the island, we curated a vehicle fleet of reliable brands and powerful cars. We acquire our vehicles directly with our brand partners such as Toyota, Dacia, Hyundai, Skoda, Renault, Seat, and Mitsubishi. Therefore, we do not buy and/or rent vehicles that have been previously owned.
Furthermore, we specialise in automatic transmission vehicles, hence, our fleet consists mainly of hybrid automatic cars. Which are rare finds on Madeira Island. In case you’d prefer the experience of driving with stick on the steep and narrow roads of Madeira Island, we also count with a great selection of manual transmission vehicles.
Can I pick up my car rental at Funchal international airport?
Certainly. You can pick up and drop off your rental car at the airport at any time. We’ll contact you if necessary before your flight to arrange all the necessary steps for your delivery. At the time of arrival, one of our representatives will be waiting for you at the exit, holding a sign with our company logo. Please be mindful that airport deliveries have an additional €20 fee per way. Deliveries during out-of-office hours (9 A.M. to 6 P.M.), also have an additional €20 fee.
There is really no credit card hold or security fee?
There is no credit card hold or security fee as we work a little differently from the rest. We do not want to keep your credit card information, nor, do we feel like it is fair to charge extra for a security fee. To guarantee availability and lock the lowest price, we do require a 20% down payment at the moment of booking; you can pay the rest of your balance once you arrive on the island with cash, debit and/or credit card. Down payment refunds are only available under extreme weather conditions and/or cancelled flights.
Car seats and booster seats for kids are free?
Yes. We also believe that you shouldn’t pay extra for safety, for that reason, child car seats and phone holders free of charge with your reservation. All of our vehicles are brand new and have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so you can connect to your phone and use the GPS. Please inquire about accessories at the moment of booking.
How does insurance work?
Very simple. As we do not hold credit card information, and to facilitate the car hire experience, drivers are responsible to pay an additional small fee of €15 fee per day. Not only is the driver fully insured in case of accidents and/or external damages, but third parties involved are also covered. This is what we call renting a car with peace of mind.

What is 24/7 Roadside assistance?
